What is Botox®?
Botox® is an injectable toxin known as botulinum. The toxin was first used to treat the optic muscles in the 1980s, but in 2002, Botox® was approved by the FDA for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows and on the forehead. How Botox® Works to Improve Your Appearance
When you frown, you contract the muscles between your eyes and on your forehead. As the muscles contract, they create wrinkles. Botox® injections paralyze these muscles by blocking the neurotransmitter acetylcholine that controls the muscles. Botox® treatments typically take about 30 minutes, and you notice an improvement in five to seven days. Over the following one to two days, you continue to see the lines disappear. In most cases, Botox® treatments take about 30 minutes, and you can repeat the treatment every three to four months.
