Chemical Peels in Fort Lauderdale, FL
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. F. Leigh Phillips, III, PA, FACS is Coral Springs, Fort Lauderdale and South Florida’s Source for Plastic Surgery and the Ultimate in Non-Surgical Aesthetic Enhancements, including chemical peels.
What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels use special chemicals to remove the damaged layers of your skin, giving you smoother, more youthful skin. Dr. Phillips typically recommends chemical peels to his Coral Springs and Fort Lauderdale patients who want to remove blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin color.
Types of Chemical Peels
Dr. Phillips performs one of three types of chemical peels, depending on your individual treatment plan. The chemical peels vary by the types of chemicals used and the length of time that the chemicals remain on your skin. The higher-intensity chemical peels require longer recovery times. For a light chemical peel, your skin is treated for approximately 10 minutes, and recovery takes up to five days. While you heal, you may experience a sensation that is similar to a sunburn. For a medium chemical peel, your skin is treated for a few minutes using a slightly stronger chemical. The chemical solution for a deep chemical peel remains on your skin for 30 minutes to two hours. Recovery for the deeper peels may be proportionately longer with the deepest peels requiring two to three weeks and maintaining some pinkness of the skin for two to three months.
Benefits of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels can help to address many issues with your skin. Dr. Phillips typically recommends light chemical peels for his patients who want subtle changes to their skin, such as improved skin color, dry skin and acne. Medium chemical peels are usually recommended for patients with acne scars and wrinkles. Deep chemical peels are effective for deep wrinkles, sun damage and blotchy patches on your skin.
